Acupuncture/Bodywork with Katrina
When you book a bodywork/acupuncture session with me, you get my undivided attention for a full hour. This is in contrast to a few different models of acupuncture treatment: community acupuncture and a busy clinic setting in which one acupuncturist operates multiple treatment rooms at one time. Both models have their benefits, and I have worked in both of these setting types in the past. But I have chosen to focus my practice on a single treatment room model for a variety of reasons:
It allows me to spend as much time with you as I need to do more hands-on healing such as craniosacral therapy, deep tissue massage, cupping, moxibustion, and energy work. This allows me to truly provide a customized treatment based on what you and your body need on any given day.
There still may be times when I place the needles and leave the room so that you can rest while the needles do their work with the meridians and muscles. But my focus is still on you. I use this time for prayerful meditation on your healing; this allows for insights and guides to come in and communicate the direction we might take in your treatment.
I place a significant emphasis on physical, emotional, and mental safety. Healing requires a relaxed nervous system, and I take the time needed to create a safe experience you can fully relax into.
It allows me to approach each session with you fluidly to move back and forth between the bodywork/acupuncture approach and coaching approach. This facilitates our work together if you are choosing to work with me through both modalities. There may be times when you show up for a session we had planned to be bodywork but realize when you arrive that you need to talk through your experience first or perhaps for the whole session. By having a full hour dedicated to you, we can choose to use the time in the best way for you.
Multi-tasking is not good. More and more research is showing that we do our best work when we are focused and mindful within single tasks. And I don’t need research to tell me that I do my best work when I am focused on one client at a time. I have learned this from my own experience.
As far as concerns that may bring you in for acupuncture/bodywork with me, I am confident in many areas, including acute and chronic pain (headaches, low back pain, neck/shoulder pain, menstruation-related pain, digestion-related pain), anxiety, and depression, menstruation and fertility issues, as well as psycho-spiritual growth. These concerns can be worked with through acupuncture/bodywork alone, and all of them are also conducive to a combined coaching and acupuncture/bodywork approach. I use the most thorough approach possible by utilizing any and all modalities that can benefit you and improve your wellbeing. An example of this is using deep tissue massage to help the muscles relax prior to needling, applying moxibustion to warm and move energy, and using after needling to pull stagnation from the muscles and meridians after they have relaxed with the needles. This is my favorite way to work: fully focused on you so that you can emerge from the treatment feeling relaxed and cared for.
